My First Video Blog

By Julia Buckley

My first attempt at vlog. Nothing fancy, totally unedited, and cringey as hell! ...Luckily, I've got broader embarrassment threshold than most and this is far from the first time I've made a fool of myself publicly, so here you go!

So wish I'd done something with my hair! Will try to look more glam next time - webcams are clearly cruel!

Squat - Could you argue that this exercise could be in EVERYONE's fitness programme?

By Steph SCPT

Squatting - One of the oldest and most used exercises in the gym...or is it?  For me a squat should be used in everyones fitness programme and is one of the most versatile exercises available.  While extremely functional, it is also a relatively low complex skill that anyone from beginniner to the advanced gym user can achieve.

For anyone who doesn't know, the definition used to describe a squat is:

Finding time for Fitness

By RogerEdwards

My class participants often tell me that they find it difficult to fit their fitness regime into their busy lives. I usually have to resist a wry smile as I try to give them some advice because chances are I just arrived from the airport to teach them having just flown in from afar. Once I even dashed to the airport after teaching and was in such a rush I made my flight still wearing my sweaty Combat gear. Not cool.

Balancing Nutrition and Exercise: New years goals

By Ryding2Health

Over 89% of New year’s goals are related to either getting more active or losing weight.

If they were all successful, then why are so many people STILL feeling it necessary to make it a resolution?

The forgotten fitness: Mental health

By Matt Wolstenholme

I was excited to receive an email from YMCAfit industry training about a new course called ‘Exercise and Mental Health’ recently.

This is a vastly important area all too often ignored in the fitness industry.

Fitocracy, does anyone actually use it?

By ManchesterOC

Seems as though the hype about Fitocracy has been and gone, it was a new fitness fad for all of about 2 months but now I see no one talking about it?

I joined back in November and I tracked a few exercise sessions but then got bored, their website was a pain to enter stuff via the iPhone and I really was not in the mood to fire up my PC or laptop just to enter some details about the exercise I've just done.......I know what I've just done as I can feel the burn, why do I want to enter it on a website?!

Fitness Rocks is go!

By Julia Buckley

It's taken a while, but we are finally live!

Improvements are still being made to the site (hence the Beta label) so please bear with us, but I hope you like what you see so far.

Feedback is always welcome. The ethos of Fitness Rocks is that it's a site that really listens to its visitors and reacts accordingly. Please pop a comment on this post or in the forum if you have any suggestions for how we could make it better or to tell us what you'd like to us to cover in the artilcles, reviews, or podcast sections.

Mirror.

A diet isn't just for Christmas.

By DanielBoothPT

Okay so its now half way through February christmas is done and new year seems as if it was 6 months ago and so does our new years resolution. Over half of the people I have come into contact with after new year told me that this was it! this was the year they went on that diet, stuck to it and got their perfect body. My reaction? Sit there smiling and agreeing, my real thoughts however I cannot repeat.

What is defined as being fit?

By ManchesterOC

Well I thought I'd post a question as my first blog post, what actually defines being fit?

I played ice hockey for a number of years but I never found myself to be classed as being fit, there were guys on the team who were slim (not skinny) but did not have good stamina. Myself on the other hand had good stamina but I enjoyed my take aways, alcohol and the odd chocolate bar. As such I was a little "tubby" but I didn't see this being a problem.
