Core Strength

I run a fair bit now..........but need to really strenthen my core(as i'm fairly wobbly in this area!!) I would like to know the best excercise for core strength that works for you.

I'm also doing my 2nd Half Marathon @ GNR this year..........and any top tips would be appreciated to get round in one piece.

Latest thinking is that

Latest thinking is that vertical core exercises are far more effective than traditional crunches and planks ( according to the American College of Sports Medicine) so exercises that have you in a standing position and moving your arms to challenge your core are best. Yoga and pilates are supposed

Yoga and pilates are supposed to be very good.

I'm fairly new to exercise

I'm fairly new to exercise and have very little core strength...actually none!! I found the exercise ball works really well for me and it's kind on my back. I use the Fitball Workout book by Jan Endacott. Really clear photos and very challenging positions. My gym trainer was so impressed with it she has bought one to use in her classes :)

I'd recommend suspension

I'd recommend suspension training - really would be spot-on for this. TRX are the best known brand, but there are many others out there if you find theirs a bit pricey.

Take a look at this article for more info: http://www.fitnessrocks.co.uk/article/trx-suspension-training-runners
